The development of fishing boats has changed greatly in recent years. At the very beginning they changed their 2800, followed by the 2650, which replaced the 2600. Already in the past, Cuddy became their most modern sport motorboat. When building the Pursuit Cuddy 2150, the hull from the old Pursuit 2000 was preserved, but in the new version only the previous hull, which anglers are sure to like, has evolved. Just like in the previous versions of the Pursuit, the same two-part construction was used, which includes the hull and liner.
The boat is big enough, it measures 20’3″ and weighs 2,600 pounds, all in order to be able to pull the boat with a medium car. On board the boat, there is an 86-gallon fuel tank, which is enough for a whole day of fishing. This model uses a paraplan that runs from below and a modified deep-v, which has a sharp angle of entry and a 16° dead centre at the stern.
Performance really counts
The boat we were swimming in was equipped with a 225-horsepower engine, which was the upper limit for this model. Thanks to its light and sleek design, the boat achieved very good performance. The maximum speed we reached that day was 50 mph at 5500 rpm. The time to the plane was just under 3.5 seconds. The optimum fuel economy was achieved at 2500 rpm/min, which ensured a speed of around 30 mph, i.e. 2.56 mpg and about 200 miles of range, which is a very good result. It is also worth mentioning that the fuel savings are also maintained at 4500rpm. Looking at these figures, you can see that we are dealing with a well balanced fishing boat, which is Pursuit Cuddy 2150. If we want to save fuel further with good performance, I would advise to reach for a slightly smaller engine – let us say 175 km, this will not only reduce combustion but also increase the maximum range on one tank.
The boat is very stable even in tight and fast corners. If we don’t like it when the boat’s bow rises up at low speeds, we can change it with 12 “x8” hydraulic trimmers. The boat is made of high quality polyester resins and fibreglass. They bind one-way bixial glass fibre to the monolith. Application of such a solution has three advantages. Firstly, it is stronger and more durable than other materials, all thanks to the lack of cross weave, which, as we know, causes tension under load. Secondly, the whole is uniform, making it less prone to punctures. As a result, glass fibre is not susceptible to high gelling temperatures. Thirdly, using one-way glass fibre material, they take less resin than other counterparts, so there is more glass than resin itself.
Simply well done Pursuit Cuddy 2150
In order to ensure buoyancy as well as sound and thermal insulation, the construction of the motor boat has been stiffened by plywood with a beam, which is filled with foam. The coating/deck has been bonded using chemical glue and stainless steel wedding. All this creates a solid structure. The cockpit is spacious, has 32 square feet, which gives a lot of space for equipment or sleeping. The sole is covered with an anti-slip material which resembles a diamond in the pattern, all this to ensure additional safety. The boat is very capacious, it can accommodate a lot of rods and lures. Two separate water pumps deserve a plus: drinking water and raw water for washing. Many manufacturers have omitted this aspect, using only one pump connected to the valve. This is not a good solution, because if one pump fails, we lose both functions, which often forces us to go ashore earlier.
Modules made of fibreglass underneath the pompanette marlin rotocast poly frame and armchairs provide well insulated stowage during fishing. They have dimensions of 4″ L x 14″ W x 12″ D and drain the water overboard through a through-flow connector. They hold about 120 pounds together. So the fish caught will be fresh for lunch. Each corner of the transom has its own shelf and access is provided by an acrylic hatch on the deck side; there is room for four gallons of oil and space for a marine battery. Inside, the board measures 26″ at the stern and 26 1/2 on the midship so that even on a bumpy sea it will ensure safety.
Twice as nice!
Two cleat holders have been installed in one plane with a glass-fibre surface, plus you can hide a pair of gaff or cleat away from obstacles, so they remain handy in teak stands, on the starboard and port sides and below. The rod holders are well made, especially for flush-mounting. There is plenty of space for six gauges at the helm. The panel is made of fibreglass, which is located directly above the steering wheel made of stainless steel. The assembled switch panel is protected against spraying thanks to a rolled up plexiglass cover. The design allows easy access to the cabling, all thanks to the built-in hinges at the bottom of the control unit. This makes it possible to turn it down, all you have to do is unfasten the chrome latches. Each cable is tied up, cleverly routed and colour-coded.
As standard, the boat is equipped with a vhf radio. The compass is surrounded by a white gelcoat in Pursuit Cuddy 2150. In strong sunlight, it gives a clear glare, this could have been prevented by giving another material for finishing. There is space for a portable toilet on the boat. The cushions were finished very well and the blue and beige colour gave grace. The cabin is 51 inches tall so most people will be able to sit comfortably. A 17 inch bomb hatch was fitted to provide ventilation. There is a lot of light inside.
The flawless finish and fit are the strengths of this boat. As always, the manufacturer has stood up to the challenge and provided us with an amazing fishing boat that will provide us with hours of fishing in great comfort.
